I am considering repowering with BD1005 replacing the Volvo MD2B in my English Built Rival 34. I have been told that the BD1005 may replace the Volvo with no changes to the current footprint of the engine bed. Do you have any suggestions or will there be any specific challenges.
This should be a fairly easy repower as the standard BD1005 has the same mount centers as the Volvo (16.14" port to stbd) and the shaft will line up with the output coupling of the transmission. The BD1005 is smaller, lighter, quieter and more powerful than the old MD2B. We supply a new shaft coupling with the new engine and all you need to do is advise us of the shaft diameter when you order your new engine. You will have to replace your propeller as the new engines use a right hand prop as opposed the LH of the old Volvo.
