Yanmar 2gm (sail drive) vs Beta 602 sail drive

I'm having a hard time getting all data together. But it seems the Beta would be lighter (how much?)
and have better fuel economy (up to 2x better I think).
What about vibration?
What about power (vs rpm)?
what about the sail drive compatibility on thruhull "hole"? I assume I need the beta saildrive but will it be too big or small for the hole currently in the boat?
This is the 2gm model not the later 2gm20 which had more power (de-sleeved- bigger bore)
thanks
bob

Hello Bob,

The BZ602 (Beta 16) is a very smooth running and quiet engine and is a much cleaner running engine than the old Yanmar. It meets all the new Tier 2 EPA requirements and this will mean less fuel used for a given HP developed. Future models will be upgraded to Tier 3 or 4. These engines are the latest Kubota blocks with the newest technology.

We can supply this engine with a new saildrive which will necessitate quite a bit of work but everything will be new. If your current saildrive is in good condition (the Yanmar SD20 saildrive has proven very reliable), we can also supply a new BZ602 (Beta 16) with an adaptor kit to fit onto your SD20 saildrive leg. If you chose this route, I suggest that you replace the diaphram gasket and rear mount. Another propeller with a bit more pitch or diameter to take advantage of the extra power is also a good idea.

Please contact me directly at the office and I will be happy to quote you.
Regards,
Stanley
