I need to replace the Yanmar YSE8 in my Edey and Duff Stone Horse. The cutter-rigged sloop is 18' 4" at the waterline and displaces 4500 lbs. I am aware of a successful SH repowering with a Beta Marine 13.5 HP engine, but I am considering the 10 HP version. For preliminary consideration I have a few questions:
1. Will the 10 HP engine give adequate performance?
2. Will the (standard SH) engine compartment require modification?
3. How much of the drive train will require replacement?
4. Roughly, what difference in cost would I see between the 10 and 13.5?
I will gladly provide additional information if it will help any of you to guide my thinking.
Hello, Edey and Duff have repowered a few Stonehorses with the Beta 10. This engine has more than enough power for this fine boat. You will enjoy the smooth running and quiet power compared to what you are used to. Regards, Stanley
