We have a beta 25, relatively new 163 hours, we just purchased the vessel and are finding that we are loosing coolant, is there any suggestions as to cause and possible remedies.
It seems that the loss of coolant comences at about the time the engine starts to heat up, it may be that there is too much coolant in the motor and it's diacharging out the back, (not throught the exhaust), it does not go back into the recovery tank as I think it should, The angle of the engine to the prop is in line and the engine after running for 1/2 to an hour stays at around 170 degrees. Could the problem be the rad cap, maybe its the wrong pressure, can you tell me what it should be for a beta 25, there is a NAPA dealer locally. Thanks.
Additionally, we are finding that after running the engine for an hour or more the engine suddenly sputters and dies, we wait a couple of minutes and then do a start up, it starts and idles nicely then when you put it into gear it sputters and dies again, this continues and just recently we had to get towed back to port. Can you suggest a cause(s) and remedy, Thanks again,
A newby when it comes to deisel engine care and maintenance, a good manual would be helpful
I think that all you need is a coolant recovery tank. We have them in stock for $17 each. When the engine gets hot, the coolant expands and this will run out the overflow. When the engine cools down, it will suck in air unless there is a recovery tank.
Your run problem stems from your fuel system. You could have any one of the following; blocked breather on the fuel tank dirty fuel filter. blocked air filter. There are other probable causes but these are the first places to look. If you are unsure as to how to proceed, I suggest that you employ a mechanic to do the job and show you how to look after your engine.
We do have complete workshop manuals but please bear in mind that these are written with mechanics in mind.
