I am repowering my 1982 IB30, it currently has a Volvo MD7A. Which motor should I use for the repower and will it fit in my current mount for the Volvo?
Your Islander Bahama 30 has a water line of 24'7" and an 8300 lb displacement.
The Volvo MD7A made 13 HP when new.
The Beta 14 would be a great replacement engine. It will be lighter then the Volvo and also a smaller size. This will provide you more space in the engine room.
As your engine is a Volvo the original propeller is a left hand rotation. You will need a right hand prop for the new Beta engine. We would suggest replacing it with a 3 blade right hand propellor. Our calculations suggest a 13 x 8 would work very well.
We have found that the 3 blade propellor will get the power to the water much better then a 2 blade propellor.
The MD7A was available with more then one standard set of mounts. You will have to provide us the width of the engine mounts used on your particular engine.
