I have an old Beta 13.5. I tried to replace the gasket on the exhaust elbow and found that it had ben fitted with helicoils as the bolt holes had corroded somewhat. Please refer to image attached.
2 of the helicoils have since failed and I had to remove them. Can you suggest a next step. Should I replace the whole heat exchanger assembly.
If so can I order from you. Would you post to Australia.
I have never been a fan of helicoils. A much better solution is the timesert. You can read up about them here http://www.timesert.com/ If you get everything clean and use these you will be up and running again at a fraction of the cost of a new tank. As these units require a slightly larger hole than the helicoil, you will be able to save your tank. Their kits come complete with the correct drill and installation tools. You will have to remove the tank to do this properly so add a manifold gasket to your parts order.
The timesert kit that you want is their part # 18100. Their website shows 3 different distributors in Australia.
There is a Beta Marine distributor in Australia so I suggest that you contact him for any parts. His email is gktownsend@bigpond.com
We supply engines and parts within the USA and to our customers when they are cruising.
Have fun, Stanley
