Beta38 Coolant Header/Expansion Tank

Hi,

I've got a Beta 38 that I'm installing.  There is no mention in the operators manual about the installation or specs for a coolant header tank / expansion tank.

I'm not installing a ho****er heater higher than the calorifier outlets.  Do I actually need a header tank?  If so:  What capacity do I need?  How high up must it be mounted?

Thanks!

Trevor

Hello Trevor,

In order to prevent the trapping of air in the coolant system, the venting water fill cap on the top of the heat exchanger must be the highest point in the system.

If the water heater and piping is not above the top of the heat exchanger then a header tank is not required.

If the calorifier water heater or the hoses connecting the heater to the engine are installed higher than the top of the heat exchanger cap, then a header tank will be required to provide a venting cap as the highest point.

Note that the heat exchanger tank is fitted with a higher PSI vent cap then the header tank.

I have attached a drawing of a typical calorifier water heater system installation.

Best regards,

Farron Peffer

Hi Farron,

Thanks for your reply. The hose coming off the heat exchanger just under the cap, should that just lead to the bilge then? Do I need to cap that?

Thanks,
Trevor

Hello Trevor,

I would leave that hose installed as delivered and just drop it down to the bilge.

Best regards,

Farron
