This past summer I replaced a tired old 4-108 on my Tayana 37 with a Beta 43, quick starting, quiet and smooth, however, at about 20 hours I noticed a bit of coolant in the drip pan and as more hours were put on the motor, increasing amounts of anti-freeze was in the pan and of course, coolant had to be added after each running. Today, with 144.5 hours on the motor, I found that the waterpump was leaking. Any ideas why the pump seal would go out with so few hours?
I have never seen one of these pumps fail so early in its life. These are usually good for 5,000 hours or more so I have no idea what has caused this. The only thing that I can think of is that there is a very large alternator and to stop the belt slipping, the belt is too tight.
Obviously this is covered under warranty but other that what I said above, I really cant think of a reason as to why. Please email me direct and advise your Woc# (begins with K).
Sorry for being so late in responding to the leaky waterpump. It was caused by an overtightened v belt. My fault that I did not check after the motor was installed. Had the pump repaired by a diesel shop in Guaymas, Mexico. Motored most of the was home to Oregon with no problem.
