new install of a Beta 16 on my Tartan 30. Feel like i have a pretty good alignment. Have two problems:
1. only getting 3000 rpm in WOT. shaft spins freely by hand. top speed of 5.2 knots.
2. VERY small amount of transmission fluid leaking from behind output flange of transmission. Just enough to whip onto surrounding walls near engine. see pic.
If you rev the engine in neutral, what RPM do you get at WOT? What propeller do you have? Check the transmission fluid and let me know the exact level. Is the breather on the transmission free when you jiggle the spring loaded cover?
1) Take the extra oil out of the transmission and you should find that the leak has gone away.
2) Your engine is being held back by the propeller which is overloading it. The extreme twist that cambell sailer put in their blades will lug the engine. I suggest that you get a Michigan Wheel MP3 propeller (or simmilar) and you will then find that your boat performs well under power.

Engine revs roughly 3800 in neutral, I believe. Def more than 3600. Trans fluid is about a 1/4 inch over hi mark. Campbell sailer 12/6 Breather jiggles freely.

I pulled some fluid out and that seems to have done the trick. Thanks.
New prop is not my first choice here. Would prefer to work with what i have. maybe repitching. I'll contact Norm at North by West to see what my options are.
I'll be back..
