Could you please confirm a pitch recommendation on a repower we are just finishing.
The boat is a Tayana 37, installing a Beta 38 with a TMC 60 2.83 to 1 reduction. The boat was previously equipped with an 18" Classic Max Prop that had been sent away for reconditioning. I am not a huge fan of feathering props but that is what the owner spent his money on.
The Max prop dealer recommended starting at 20* pitch with equals 12.4 inches of pitch. Does this sound like a reasonable pitch to start sea trials?
I am assuming that this is a three blade prop. My prop calc comes up with 18"x13" three blade so you are very close. If the boat is heavily laden, stick with the 12.4" pitch. If the boat is lightly laden, try the next setting which will be slightly overpropped (about 13.8" pitch.)
