a very dear friend has a 10 year old Gemini 105 cat with a Westerbeke 30B that has over 6000 hr and a vary serious rod or wristpin knock. Naturally I suggested she should replace it with a Beta. It has a retractable drive leg as was standard on many of these boats
Have you sold any for this application and can you suggest a replacement. Her concern is the mounting requirements. Also have you any experience shipping to Marsh Harbor from the US or UK with regard to import duties? Commonwealth products appear to enjoy some benefits on duty.
The Beta 30 does a fine job in the Gemini and can be supplied with the correct feet to fit. Likewise the transmission output coupling will connect to the Sillette drive. Other than drilling a few new holes for the flex mounts, there is no other work needed to the engine beds that I am aware of. The new engine will simplify maintenance on the Gemini with the service points at the front.
Shipping to Marsh Harbor is easy and quite economical. We truck the engine to Riviera Beach and the shipping line takes it over to Marsh Harbor. This is a weekly sailing which departs Tuesdays.
I cannot help with the import costs at all. This is between the importer and the Bahamian authorities. I suspect that they do make allowances for spares for a vessel in transit but is always wise to check this first.
I have not made reference here to any costs as this forum gets used as a reference. Today's pricing won't help someone in 5 years time. Please use email for pricing.
Have fun, Stan
