We're interested in an Amel Super Maramu. I understand that they use an isolated ground with a bonding system for metals in contact with seawater. The ground and the bonding system are completely separate. I understand this is a typical system used on boats with a metallic hull.
Are Beta Marine engines compatible with an isolated ground system?
Hello and welcome to the forum. The Amel boats are wonderful cruising boats and are very intelligently laid out, not only for living aboard but also from the maintenance standpoint.
All Beta Marine engines are available with an isolated ground electrical system at a small extra charge so the change over will be as easy as is possible.
The whole engine wiring system is different. The alternator is an isolated ground alternator and all the senders for the gauges are different as well. In addition there is a relay box which needs to be mounted in the engine compartment. This has the starter relay and some other switching components.
Unfortunately this forum does not allow for publishing a pdf so I cannot post a wiring diagram here. Please email me directly and I can then send you the isolated ground wiring diagram.
