I have a Beta 28, D1005 with the Iskra 100 amp alternator.
The house battery bank is comprised of four T-105 6 vdc connected to deliver 450 ah at 12 vdc.
I have read that "Trojan calls for 14.8-15.0 for their popular T-105's."
What is the charging voltage set point of the Iskra 100 amp alternator? Is it sufficient to properly maintain the T-105 batteries? If not, is the Balmar 60-VP-MC-120-SR-KIT a good upgrade?
The standard internal regulator should provide charge at 14.5 volts. If you must have more output you have a few choices.
1) It is very easy to connect an external regulator to the 100 amp Iskra by fitting a brush box. This is easy to fit and we have these in stock here in NC. The Balmar 614H will be a good choice here.
2) You can fit a Balmar 100 or 120 amp alternator with an external regulator. Here you must be very careful as Balmar make a special alternator for us with a side terminal as the standard 60 series alternator has a positive terminal which interferes with the exhaust manifold. We usually have these in inventory as well.
I suggest that you also fit a bilge blower with ducting to suck the heat away from the alternator with whichever option you choose. This will allow the alternator to provide the best output possible.
