Is changing oil filters always necessary

We can change the oil on our Beta 60 in a few minutes, because we have an electric pump in place of the normal manual pump.  Empties the engine fast, and then pumps the new oil back in with no mess.  This is an easy installation, particularly since we bought the engine with a longer oil drain hose than for the standard hand pump.  We had Beta install the hand pump for the transmission.

Beta could do well offering an electric in and out pump as an option.

However changing the filter is awkward, because of space issues.  Is it really necessary to change filter every oil change (we change every 150 hours, about twice or 3 times per year), due to having shallow sump)

What are the consequences of not changing the filter?  Lose oil pressure?   Does it get by-passed?

I have just ordered some spare filters (we are presently in UK) but have to face the possibility of not being able to get a Beta cartridge in a remote location.  The Beta filter does not show up in equivalence charts from generic vendors.  I know that Beta US and Beta UK are good about shipping parts, but customs, corruption and general incompetence in many ports can screw up the best shipping work.

The oil filter is an essential part of the engine's lubrication system. This is where any dirt is trapped and held until such time as the engine is serviced. Oil and filters are much cheaper than an engine rebuild.

I suggest that you install a remote oil filter to allow for easy access if yours is hard to get to.
You will find some cross reference part numbers here www.betamarinenc.com/index.php/parts/productpart/default
