I recently had a Facet electric fuel pump installed on my 20 hp A4 replacement. After consulting the ever helpful Farron, he recommended bypassing the mechanical lift pump on the engine (the Facet pump is rated at 4-5.5 psi). The electric pump has an anti-siphon valve installed, so unfortunately even when it's not running, it restricts flow to the mechanical pump. The engine is winterized now, but when the season begins, I'm leaning toward bypassing the mechanical pump in order to avoid damage to the diaphragm and any resultant engine issues were it to fail. My question is can I leave the mechanical pump mounted and just bypass it altogether without plating over the inlet/outlet orifices where the fuel hoses currently attach? I'd like to have the option of connecting to it again should it be necessary down the road.
That said, I am tempted to obtain a similar Facet pump with no anti-siphon to install in series with the mechanical pump and leave it off (with a switch, already installed) unless bleeding. Is this advisable?
In an unrelated matter, does Beta have any brushable engine paint available, or know of a place I can find some in the same red hue?
Of course you can just bypass the pump. I suggest that you connect the inlet to the outlet with a piece of hose filled with diesel fuel to help cool the pump.
You will be better off with an electric pump that is 1.5 to 3 PSI. We do keep one in inventory and this is also a Facet pump.
We do keep touch up paint in stock as well. This is a similar to what one would get for the car and there is a brush attached to the lid.
Thanks for your quick reply, Stanley. Do you think that the psi rating of my pump is too high (4 to 5.5 psi) as things stand even with bypassing the mechanical pump? If I were to replace my (new) pump, I'd prefer to install the replacement (without an anti-siphon valve) in series with the mechanical pump unless you feel that this is not advisable. Another issues is that my electric pump is mounted above my fuel tank (I'd estimate 12-16" above the top of the tank-not really any other place it could go). With a lower psi (1.5 to 3) rating, would I have adequate lift?

Hi, Well first off it is great news that you have the touch up paint with a brush! The spray cans are messy! The other item is the Diesel pump. We have a 38 hp Beta and we installed a diesel pup for back up bleeding and found out it has too much PSI. That it could damage the fuel pump in the engine. I think it is 4 5 psi. Any way we were thinking of using it to polish the fuel. We did install a ball pump and that works fine. Still though we could be interested in the electric diesel pump for our gravity fed fuel system. I looked on your web site but did not see one for sail. Could you point me in the right url direction please?
