We have duel alternators Beta 38 on our Beta 38. Facing the front of the Beta the alternator on the right has limited adjustment. It hits the primer fuel pump when pushed in to get slack for removing the belt.
Is there some way we do not see to remove the old belt and put on a new one?
Do we need to remove the alternator completely and re-install it with the new belt on it and try to bolt it back on with that strain.
The factory generally puts on a belt that will keep the whole engine package as narrow as possible as lack of width in the engine compartment is most people's issue.
In your case there is no issue with space alongside the alternator so I suggest that you purchase a belt that is 1/2" to 3/4" longer than the one that you have which will solve the problem as there seems to be a lot of adjustment left on the adjusting arm.
To remove the belt try to roll it off the crank pulley first and then just turn the engine over to get the belt off. If this doesn't work then I suggest using a sharp knife to cut the belt off and then take it to to the auto parts store.
I also see that the on engine fuel filter has not been changed since the engine was supplied to you and suggest that this is past due for replacement.
There is a throttle cable just below the belt. The belt is close to it. The throttle cable is on the front of the motor because this way the throttle in the ****pit binical is the correct way. That is it is pushed forward to give the engine more rpm's. Would putting a larger belt on and adjusting the alternator out more bring the belt down to hit the throttle cable?
The fuel filter is not old. We change it every season which is once a year. Our season here in Mexico is about 6 months out at anchor in various spots usually south in the Mexican Riviera. Then to a good hurricane hole like Puerto Vallarta for the summer. So at most we run for about 6 months but usually less on a filter. We purchased about 4 to 6 at Napa in Mazatlan Mexico a year or two ago. Before that through Beta in Cal or Mexico. We shut off the fuel till we are bout to start the motor. Then we change the Racor filter ant the beta fuel filter. Then start the motor up and we are OFF! We pickle the Beta for the summer. That is we flush it with fresh water and change the antifreeze and stack tube O rings, zinc, air filter, oil, tranny oil etc. This year the belts.
Thanks,
Chip

It is really hard to see the throttle cable positioning accurately in your jumpy video.
I doubt that the cable is close enough to the belt that moving the alternator slightly further away from the engine on its pivot bolt will make any differance.
