I have had a very smooth installation of a new Beta 20 in my Vancouver 32 "Rincewind." Sea trials for the engine went great. Today, I started the engine and water spewed out of one of the connections to my Vetus vented loop. I took off the hoses and found that both hose barbs were deformed - one of them dramatically. (See picture.) The engine did not run hot during the testing - max was 155-160 degrees. What happened? Of course, being here in Newfoundland I can't just dash to the store and buy a new one - maybe it will arrive in 3 days.
That sort of deformation is usually caused by overtightening of the hose clamps.
This in turn is possibly as a result of the wrong size or type of hose that wouldn't seal so the clamps kept on being tightened.
