I bought a Southern Cross 28 that had 3 plus feet of water inside for a few years. So far, I gutted the interior and removed the old Volvo. I plan on repowering and building the new interior around the new engine. LOA- 30.42ft ; LWL- 20.17ft ; beam- 8.5ft ; draft- 4.67ft ; displacement- 8500 lbs ; ballast- 3400 lbs
Which engine would you recommend for the repower? Along with optimal shaft and prop size? I dont want to overpower the boat, but also want to be able to use the engine in less than favorable weather. The 8,500 lbs displacement is a designer spec, Im not sure if that includes gear for cruising.
How much would the project approximately cost?
Where would I have to bring the boat for the work to be done?
I recommend the Beta 16 for this boat. This will provide a comfortable cruise speed and plenty of power in poor conditions. My prop calc program calls for a 13"x 8" three blade RH propeller with 50% BAR. I would use a 1" shaft.
I do not discuss any pricing on the forum as this will be kept for reference. Please email me directly at stan@betamarinenc.com and then I can reply to you with current pricing. Please also let me know where you will be doing the work. Then I may be able to point you to a good installing mechanic.
