Fuel filters

Morning, I have a Beta 20 and for some strange reason the previous owner did not have the secondary filter on the engine. It may have been a space issue in a very tight engine compartment. Can't ask him.

I would like to install a secondary to come after the primary Racor mounted on the bulkhead instead of on the engine.

My understanding is that the factory secondary came after the fuel is pumped from the engine mounted mechanical pump. My question is does the secondary have to come after the engine mounted pump? Could I mount the secondary (2 mic) right after the primary (10 mic) on the bulkhead ? There is a electric fuel pump inline before the primary.

Any insight appreciated as always.

It is preferred that a filter be between the fuel lift pump and the high pressure injection pump. in the unlikely event that the fuel lift pump was to have a failure, the filter will protect the high pressure pump from any particles and bits that could potentially come out of the failed fuel lift pump.
