Yanmar YSM8

Looking at a Pacific Seacraft 25, for my possible purchase, with YSM8 that needs replacement. Is there a suitable Beta replacement? Any experience with these boats? 5400 lb displacement, full keel, 21 lwl,  3.3 ft draft. Thanks for your time!

Hello Butch,

Welcome to the forum. I do not know the 25 but if it is the same as the boat shown here sailboatdata.com/sailboat/pacific-seacraft-25-1
Then I would recommend the Beta 14 as a new power plant for this boat. This is a very different engine to the old Yanmar. It is a 2 cylinder engine and this is a vertical engine as opposed to the horizontal Yanmar. You may have some cabinetry issues as a result, but not knowing the boat I cannot confirm this. The Beta 14 is the smallest engine available today in the US.

Regards, Stanley
