In my boat I have BZ482 type engine installed which ran fine until recently. From one day to another when I turned the key I could only hear one click. I guess this click is the starter solenoid trying to make contact.
What makes this problem for me hard to diagnose is that some times the engine just starts whithout any problems, the other times I need to try it multiple times until the starter finally turns over, or if that fails I just let it rest 15mins and try again.
What I tried so far:
-cleaning the starter battery terminals
-cleaning all the positive connections from battery to starter(haven't touched the ground wire yet)
-checked voltage at battery, starter solenoid positive in and starter solenoid controll wire. They are all the same voltage(around 12.5v)
-jumped between the solenoid positive in and positive out terminals and the starter turns.
-jumped between the solenoid positive in and solenoid controll terminal and the engine cranks.
I will clean the ground cables today but I don't think that is the problem.
There's anything else I can try? I'm at a remote location so I don't want to pull the starter out yet.
