Raw water scoop or not?

What is your recommendation on using a scoop on the raw water thru hull vs. no scoop? My inclination is to not use a scoop. The reasoning being that it is easier to clean the thru hull opening. My yard says the scoop keeps debris out of the engine but I would think my Vetus raw water strainer would do a very good job of that and be much easier to keep clean.

I would opt for no scoop but if you do decide on a scoop, please fit is to that the opening faces towards the rear of the boat, not forward.

Thanks! I was leaning toward no scoop. Yes, I read that section in the installation manual, so understand the scoop direction.
