Black wire by starter, looks like ground?

Hi,

We have a Beta 38 hp 2011 model I think.

There is a coil or a block by the starter that has some wires coming out the bottom.

One of the wires broke. It is black under the red paint.

I repaired it. The engine will not start without it.

I had to wire tie the (coil?) onto a the starter cable.

We are at anchor right now in Zihuatanejo, Mexico. We may need to repair this wire aain as we will not be back to our dock for a few more months.

I took a few pictures and included them in this message.

Is this wire a ground? If so then I imagine it could be grounded another place on the engine?

Thanks,

Chip

That block is a starter relay and the ground wire needs to be attached to the engine.
As long as it is a good ground, it doesn't matter where the end is secured.
