Reading dip stick to get correct fluid levels

When checking the transmission fluid level using the dipstick, should the dipstick be pushed all the way down to check the level? How about the engine oil dipstick? All the way down?

Neither the engine manual, nor the separate transmission manual specifies exactly how to position the dip stick to read the fluid level. The manual only warns that over-filling is dangerous.  Ive heard different things from other owners; some say just rest the dip stick on the rim, dont push it all the way down.

Can you clarify?

I have a Beta 14 with the standard TMC40 transmission.

thanks!

Push the dipstick in until it seats to get the correct level as per fig 05 on page 21 of the TMC operating manual.

The same goes for the engine dipstick. It must be pushed in to get the correct level.
