Coolant header tank bypass/removal

Hello,

I have had new Beta 50 installed for a couple of years now with an expansion tank due to my water heater being higher than the engine.  Aside from some occasional extra coolant leaking out of the main cap overflow ton the engine everything has worked fine.

My water heater has started depositing white powder/ mineralsnin the fresh water line and I suspect it is going bad so I no longer use it for fresh water.

I dont plan to replace it in the near future so I am wondering what to do with the coolant lines that still run through it. I will probably remove the water heater but leave the lines in case they are needed un the future.

When the engine was installed the mechanic used 2 bonomi ball valves at the engine so the loop could be bypassed so I could use those but would I need a different pressure cap then? Or a recovery tank?
