I recommend the Beta 38 with 2:1 transmission for your boat. This engine is smaller and lighter than your old engine, has more power and is much smoother running and quieter than what you are used to. We have a customer who has repowered his 37 and he is very happy with the results. I can put you in contact with him but you need to contact me directly for his phone number. His boat had a Volvo 36HP instead of the Yanmar.

What is the aprox. weight savings ? I would also like to know the cost of this power system and am leaving my email for your reply. davidmcanfield@yahoo.com
Stanley is probably talking about me as the customer above. We repowered with the Beta 38 to replace our Volvo MD17C (36hp) 18 months ago and couldn't be happier. I did the trade out myself and it was all but worry free. The new engine is far quieter and smoother than the Volvo and we burn slightly less than 0.5 gallons per hour at a cruising speed of 5.5 knots. It will push our 37 foot Flying Dutchman (20,000 pounds) at just over 7 knots at full power. I took a 400 mile trip this past Fall and my crew was amazed at the speed we could make when we needed to.
We're currently planning to circumnavigate Vancouver Island this coming summer with two other boats and with the new engine we are not worrying one bit about the potential high currents and foul weather.
