BD1005 Alternator Belt Wear

I have a new BD1005 engine with 17 hours on it. I noticed a black powder all over the front of the engine. I assume this is alternator belt wear. Is this normal ? The belt tension is as it came from the factory. The alternator is the 65 Amp model.

Hi,

It is not unusual for a new belt to need re-adjusting after the first hour or two of use. I have had belts initially stretch a bit and then be fine for the next 3 or 400 hours.

Regards, Stanley
