I have a BV-1505 with a PRM-102 gear box - the prop rotates CW.
With the shift in FORWARD and the engine stopped I can rotate the shaft CW with my hand but cannot rotate the shaft CCW.
With the shift in REVERSE and the engine stopped I can rotate the ahaft CCW with my hand but cannot rotate the shaft CW.
Is this normal?
The reason for this question - I backed my boat out of the slip as usual and when I cleared the slip I shifted to FWD and had little if any control in FWD. It was also slower than normal backing out.
While in the slip I could see water being pushed around the boat when in FWD and REV, but it seemed the boat was not being drivven with as much force as in the past.
The prop has not been cleaned for several months - it is in Hampton VA. - I am hoping the trouble is a dirty prop, and not a gear box problem.
I would think that your dirty prop is the cause of your lack of drive.
What you have found when turning the shaft by hand is quite normal. When you are sailing you may leave the transmission in neutral or, if you prefer to lovk the prop, leave it in reverse. Never leave it in forward as this will cause premature wear on the drive cone while it slips.
