I have new B 38 that has not been installed in my boat yet. I have set it on the engine beds (which slope to the rear of the engine) over night and then removed it and set it on the level. While the engine was sitting at an angle on the engine bearers I notice fuel leaking from the fitting on the injector pump where the rubber fuel line from the filter connects. This is the fuel line that supplies the injector pump. The leak appears to be coming from the interface between the fitting and pump housing and not the rubber hose. How is this fitting attached to the pump housing. Can it just be unscrewed or is it like some kind of banjo fitting. I would like to disassemble it and see if I just need a washer or something. I'd like to fix it before installing the engine for ease of access.
So I'm told. But if they made 10 million of these engines and just one leaked I would be the one to get it. The drawing is most helpful. It appears the leak is between part 010 and the lower of the two 120 washers. Fuel has erroded the paint below the fitting. Now I can pop it apart and have a proper look. I didn't want to start wrenching on it without understanding how it went together. Thanks so much. I'll report back what I find.
Well I disassembled the banjo fitting at the injector pump and found green paint bits on the copper washer. The paint chips damaged the washer causing a leak. I got a couple replacement washers from the Volvo Penta dealer in our marina as the local Kubota tractor dealers don't seem to stock parts other than filters and such. Reassembled the fitting and hopefully the engine will be leak free now. Thanks for the help with the drawing.
