Replacing Renault RC8D in a 1980 Hunter 27

I have a 1980 Hunter H-27 with a Renault RC8D that is showing its age. What engine and prop combination should I use?

This boat is used on Lake Mead, Nevada.

-Thanks,
-ESP

just a recommedation...I am doing a beta20 into a Catalina 30 (1982) ..I am just at the stage of doing the mounts and stringers / aligning to the shaft etc...

so Far I love the project....upgraded to a panel C...

I ordered mine from a dealer that I researched online (SoundMarineDiesel)
and would recommend if you buy to order ...everything you need from the same person that sold the engine...that way everything will be "warranty approved" and matched to all your components...I did the whole new exhaust system ..that had to have larger diameter hose from my old 11hp...The beta is a great looking and fitting engine with the maintenance items all easily accessible....and so far the project is going well...
One more week and hopefully I 'll be measuring for a new shaft...and figuring out if a pss shaft seal is the way to go...or a new stuffing box?

If you can fit the 20hp..it seems like good value for everything you get..I compared it to the beta 14, and it was only a few hundred more for a 20...which will also provide extra power to fight wind waves and current if required!

Hello Eric,

The Beta 14 is perfect for your boat. Any more power will be a waste of your money.

I have attached 2 photos. The boat owner did his own work and now uses the boat regularily.  The propeller that was fitted is 12"x7" three blade and he says that he now has more power than he really needs so his cruise is very quiet and economical (about one gallon of diesel every 5 hours).

Regards, Stanley
