hi i fitted a new beta 20 three years ago and love it the best thing i ever did , and the sales support in new zealand is the best , but i was wandering is any of you have knoticed engine mounts rusting , my boat is a very dry ship and well ventalated and dry builge , but one of the mounts has rust , the engine has done 200 hours .wax pollished often and has no leaks , and i dont want to have to paint the mounts as they have a treatment from factory , i am sure my agent when i see him about it will want to replace it ,but why should he , have any of you had the same prob , alls good grant
There is an old navy adage that goes "if it moves, grease it, if it doesn't , paint it". This holds good for boats that aren't in the navy as well. The plating on the flex mounts is not designed for prolonged exposure to a salt water enviroment. A bit of paint on the flex mounts will serve you well. I suspect that the mount showing some rust is the one that is under the zinc anode. When you change the zinc some raw water spills and even though you wipe it up when you are done, I think that the salt has some residual effect.
theres an old adage i have ,, i dont want oil splashed on it and i dont want one of four new engine mounts painted , when it is made of a rust prof product , the enginge mount is the left front looking at the engine so no salt water could never entered the engine room ,nor could it , i under stand the engine feet are made from a contractor or another company so i feel beta could front the customer and protect there good product, i am not being picky , but i am very very fussy and want only the best for my yacht as many of my friends i have sold the concept to who have fitted them , looking at the feet i think they are zink or lightly galved but i dont want to paint it .once i start painting it , it never stops , i try to wax them one a year to keep up the shine ,i think with this product wich has a good name and following that the suplier could come to the party and up grade there product , many thanks grant ,,,happy beta owner
