Hello Dennis,

We will need to know the WOC number of your particular engine to select the correct upgrade kit.

Older engines will use a Denso brand alternator. Newer engines will use an Iskra brand alternator.

The WOC number can be found in the documentation that came with the engine or on the ID sticker located on engine itself.

Thanks Farron.  My engine would take the Iskra, but that isn't an alternator name I am familiar with.

Hello Dennis,

ISKRA alternators are found in a tremendous number of OEM applications. They are also known under the brand name Letrika and are used by many engine manufacturers.

ISKRA OEM customers include: BETA Marine, BMW, Case, Cummins, Daewoo, Iveco, JCB, John Deere, New Holland, Perkins, Volkswagen, and many others.

We find them to be extremely well built and completely reliable.

Thanks Farron.  That's encouraging.  What external regulator would you recommend or have you seen used for the Iskra alternator? I have 300AH Lifeline AGM batteries for my house bank and an AGM starting battery.

Hello Dennis,

The 75 amp ISKRA fit to the Beta 14 - 25 hp engines can easily be modified by any competent alternator shop to work with most common external regulators.

The Balmar M-614 H is a very nice unit. We stock these regulators and have very good pricing.

Please call for pricing.

Thanks again Farron.  Nice to have a guru to bounce these things off of.

Hi Farron,

I have a Beta 20 early model with the 70 amp ISKRA. Will the Balmar unit work with this model also? Same type modifications?

Mostly looking to put the bulk charge on the battery bank in the morning and let the solar top it off during the day. Hoping to do this at a lower RPM. Am I on the right path?

Thank you,

Carl
