We removed the bracket we had asked you about. While removing the bracket we noticed a split hose that goes into the impeller housing. It was leaking slightly.
We removed the hose and cut an inch or so off it. Then connected it again and used a new hose clamp. There was one hose clamp on it originally. We do not see room for two hose clamps but maybe.
Our problem now is the hose is leaking more than before. It leaks out of the top of the hose. We have removed it and pulled it up as far as it will go and repositioned the hose clamp. It still leaks. We do think that tighten the hose clamp any more will break it.
What now?
We where thinking of possibly wrapping the house hose barb with plumbers tape and then trying to get the hose back on and seeing if that stops it from leaking.
Or heating the hose up and then shoving it on and tighten down the hose clamp to get it to seal?
Or maybe plumbers goop on the hose barb then slide on the hose and tighten up the hose clamp?
You thoughts please?
You can see the bracket is now gone where the ground wire is bolted to the Beta 38 hp.
Hose before we cut the bad split end off and reinstalled it.
We have cut off the split end. but the hose still leaks. We have repositioned the hose and clamp but without any luck. It still leaks out of the top.
This is the hose that runs from your seawater strainer to the engine water pump. It may be as old as the vessel itself and thus hard and brittle. It looks like it's time to replace it with a new section of hose.
I recommend a good quality, solid band type, stainless hose clamp. The kind that is shown in the top photo. These give much better service than the clamp shown in the bottom photo. Use a single hose clamp for this hose connection and make sure the nipple on the pump is clean before installing the new hose.
