Alternator wiring.

Hello. I wonder if anyone can help.

I am helping a friend salvage a boat which had been submerged. The engine bay not the whole boat.

Now dried out and had the engine running but not sure how to wire in the alternators.  Guess they are a 40A and 70A for the domestic.

I don't think that the canal boat was properly wired in the first place.

Have junked the Beta controller 200-02580 as it was submerged.  Tacho working from 40A.

So main questions

1.  40A Has two large terminals.  Should they both feed to the starter battery.

2. 70A Where do the 2 wires go that are attached to the alt brushes ?

3. The heavy cable on the 70A clearly in its original and correct location.

But where does the exciter power come from. Any positive through the ignition switch?

Although l have some electrical knowledge and qualifications my experience is 230V area. Thanking anyone who can help.

Hello Robin,

The engines produced for the UK canal boats are to a very different spec than the sea going engines that we use here in the USA and we do not know what alternators are fitted on these engines.

I suggest that you get the WOC number of the engine and then contact the Beta Marine factory to help you. Their website address is www.betamarine.co.uk
