Fuel return line....

Does the fuel return line have to extend to the bottom of the tank?

In some installations this is impossible as the tank is in the keel. I suggest that you still plumb in a loop to trap some fuel in the return line before the line connects to the tank.

Ok..so the important thing is to get the loop in and connect to the tank....

Also the Beta 25 calls out a fuel line of 8mm OD...what is the ID supposed to be??

Thanks

Use 5/16" ID fuel hose. This will fit on the fittings on the engine.

RE: Fuel return line....ID vs OD

I am from the UK.  ID and OD mean same as in the US

I suspect it is a typo rather than a UK thing.  Unnecessarily confusing though

When I installed y fuel system I never even noticed it.

The Beta manual references the solid copper line that is used in the UK and much of Europe. I.E, 8mm OD line that uses "olives" or what in the USA are termed ferrules to effect a seal.

The engines that Beta Marine US imports into the USA, are all fit with hose barbs that accept standard rubber fuel line with a 5/16" ID. Stainless hose clamps effect the seal.

Just finished the install of a new Beta 25. That "almost 5/16 inch" fitting can be real challenging to mate up to. I had to grind off the barbs on a brass hose connector to get it slim enough to mate with great indignity onto the fuel return short hose on the engine.
8mm is close, but not really close as it otter be.
:)

On the positive side, we have not yet discovered any Whitworth bolts on the engine...

And, praise be, the raw water pump fitting is.... US !

Also, are stock fuel return fitting at the tank is on the top. Seems logical, but I might missing something. (?)
