Hello Sailorphil,

Sorry to hear that you are having pump problems. While the pump has only 350 hours of run time, it is still a 9 year old pump. Sometimes the calendar trumps the hour meter. New bearings and seals should give many more hours and years of operation.

Original motor in the boat was a Volvo MD 11C. It also had a Johnson pump,

which went 15+ yrs and 1000+ hrs before the coolant seal gave it up.

I've already purchased a new pump from you. The shaft was also corroded.

Hi Sailorphil,
I had the same issue with the Johnson SW pump on my Beta 30 except half the years and 3 times the hours.
Trouble was that with brg in similar condition to yours the outer race was left behind in the blind housing.
A retired mechanic at my club who enjoys challenges was able to get it out and I rebuilt it with parts from a Johnson dealer and bearing supplier.
I don't know if the hours/age on mine were acceptable; as with most things on boats you could ask 5 different people and 5 different answers.
Still going OK at 1700 hrs.

Hey Andrew,

I own & manage an auto repair shop, have done so for 40+ years,

so I am experienced in mechanical issues (also been boating for 50+ yrs).

IMO 1000 hrs is a reasonable lifespan for a SW pump, 350 hrs is too short.

Wasn't worth the time or effort to rebuild, so I replaced the whole pump.

Betamarinenc was great, had the pump in 2 days.

I did the repower myself, over a cold New York Winter. Love the Beta,

it's smooth, quiet & reliable. Phil
