Having a problem. (I have two 13.5 hp) While motoring at a steady rpm say 2500, everything is fine until I hit a bad wake or am in rough seas.. the rpm on the port engine will start going from 2500 to 3000 and back to 2500 bouncing back and forth. Has anyone seen this or have any idea what to check or do. If I listen to the engine it appears to be speeding up an down. Could it be the transmission? I checked the oil and it is higher than the notches on the stick. Would to much oil cause a problem?
It is possible that the transmission is the cause and it is also possible that shift cable is incorrectly adjusted and this could also cause the drive to partially disengage and then re-engage as the engine moves slightly on the flexible mounts. I suggest that you get the transmission fluid correct to avoid oil leaks and make sure that the outer cable clamps are tight and connected to the correct part of the cable and then run the boat again in poor seas to test if there is any improvement.
How many hours are there on this installation?
What transmissions are fitted to these engines?
The engines have PRM 80 transmission and less than 150 hours. I will correct the oil level and check the cables. Looking at the manual for the transmission it indicates that the oil should be no higher than the plug hole on the left side. so i could take the plug out and drain the oil to below that point then recheck the dip stick and if its good the correct amount of oil is in there?
