heat exchanger

Can just the forward end of the heat exchanger be removed for cleaning and replacement of the o rings? I can't locate the drain for coolant on my Beta 28. Where is it when facing the front of the engine?

You need to take off both the front and the rear heat exchanger end caps to be able to remove the tube stack for cleaning.

The coolant block drain will be on the side of the block aft of the oil filter. Please note, that if this engine has custom mounts, the block drain tap may have been plugged up to allow for the custom feet. If this is so, then remove the lower hose.

Correct. That is the block coolant drain.

I opened the drain but only got a drip, drip. I removed the filler cap on the heat exchanger, no change. I pushed a wire into the drain but no change. The fluid that did come out was clean and green. No gunk or goo. Any suggestions and where is that lower hose located?  My view and access is rather limited. Thanks.

I suggest that you unscrew the T handle from the drain tap completely. Then use a piece of wire to where the T handle screw came out of. This will solve your problem.
The lower hose is in your photograph. It runs from the fresh water pump around the front of the engine to the heat exchanger tank.
