Hello Ed,

I suggest that you fit a coolant recovery tank like the one shown at this link www.betamarinenc.com/product/coolant-overflow-tank/
This will allow you to keep the coolant full and not have any excess drip into the bilge.

Thanks i will...is it normal to overflow like this or is it because i am overfilling it you think?

When the engine heats up the coolant will expand and any excess will come out of the overflow. This is normal.
The recovery tank keeps this and when the engine cools down the coolant will go back into the cooling system.

When you first set up the recovery bottle, fill the engine to the level of the pressure cap, fit the cap and fill the recovery bottle about 1/4 full. As the engine runs and heats up, you will see the clear line between the coolant filler neck and the recovery bottle fills up and this will push the air out of the bottle.

Is there any specific range of heights relative to the HE filler neck in which the bottom of the expansion tank must be once mounted?

There is no specific height for non-pressurized overflow tanks. However, if the inlet fitting for the overflow tank is in the bottom of the tank, you should mount the overflow tank below the heat ex-changer cap. If not, the overflow tank will empty via gravity, every time that the heat ex-changer cap is removed. This is not the case if the fitting is at the top of the overflow tank.

Thanks, Farron. Are there min/max level or other marks in the middle somewhere on the external coolant tanks that you sell? I guess lining up the max max with the top of the HE filler neck might be about right.

There are some marks. Basically you should keep the tank about 1/2 full when engine is cold.
