Prepeller shaft sizing

I need to replace the prop shaft on my sailboat with fairly recent Beta 38 (WOC K35616). With the chance to change things, how can I best determine the proper propeller shaft diameter to choose? While the engine is rated for 38 HP at 3600 RPM, what peak torque could be expected at the transmission output (2.45 ratio transmission)? Thanks for your continued support and advice!

Hello Blue Moon,

Shaft diameter is calculated based on Engine HP @ MAX RPM, Gear reduction ratio, Propeller diameter and unsupported Shaft length.

I would advise that you contact a marine shaft supplier and provide them that information so that they can recommend a shaft diameter and material spec.
They will be in the best position to advise you.

Good luck with your project!
