BD1005 Transmission Shifting Problem

I believe that you have diagnosed the problem correctly. Which is that either shift cable or lever adjustment is required. Or that the shift cable is worn and loose and needs replaced.

Mechanical marine transmissions require that the shift lever on the side of the transmission case be pushed from neutral detent to full stop for both FWD and REV. If not, it will cause the transmission to engage slowly or slip. Which can cause damage to all mechanical transmissions. It is much simpler and easier to adjust and replace cables than to replace transmissions.

Farron, unfortunately we couldnt solve the problem simply with cable adjustment. We pulled the cable for inspection and found it to be very worn and frayed. Im ordering replacement cables for both the throttle and clutch from Edson. Is the end fitting that connects the cable to the transmission shift lever the same as the fitting that connects the throttle cable to the engine? The old fitting on the clutch cable needs to be replaced and I found it in the Beta 10 parts list, p/n 212-99240/01 Ball Joint Z/P Steel. Does the throttle cable use the same end fitting? I couldnt find a reference for it in the Beta 10 parts list. Thanks for your help.
