Fogging for extended storage?

If I must take a season or two off, leaving the boat on the hard over a couple of winters, is fogging my Beta 38 recommended? If so, how best to do that and with which fogging oil so as not to gum up the injectors or cause other problems?

It is hard to fog a diesel engine due to the fogging oil being combustible and the engine will burn it as quickly as you spray it in. Unlike a gasoline engine that chokes out and stalls as you spray in the oil.

For long term storage, perform a fresh oil change with FFA approved aircraft 'flyaway' crank case oil, such as Phillips Anti-Rust SKU 1045910 . Run the engine a few minutes to get the oil hot and circulated in the engine well.

Be sure to change the oil back to conventional oil when you recommission the engine.

To protect the fuel injection system, run the engine for a few minutes using 'Calibration Fluid' in lieu of standard diesel fuel. ( Calibration fluid - SAE J967 ) is a very pure form of mineral oil. With absolutely no moisture or impurities.
Less than 1/2 a gallon run through the engine will fill and protect the entire injection system.

Tape off the intake and exhaust system to limit air infiltration and critters.

If you want to add oil to the cylinders, remove the glow plugs and spray in a small amount of fogging oil. Then, with glow plugs removed, rotate the engine over to coat the cylinder walls .

A bit of warning, using too much fogging oil and rotating the engine with the glow plugs installed, can hydro lock the engine and possibly make the engine fire. This will cause mechanical damage.
We do not recommend this step be performed except by a professional.
