C&C29 Repower recommendation

I have a 1977 C&C 29 (Mk I) currently with an Atomic 4 that I'm looking to repower with a Beta.

What size engine would be most appropriate between the Beta 16, Beta 20, or 25?  The boat is about 8,000 pounds of displacement before gear, or people. With gear, tankage, and 3-4 people, my math says it's probably getting close to 10,000 lbs.  (I have room for a 13" propeller, so that shouldn't be an limitation).

The typical "2hp per 1000 lbs. displacement" advice would say the Beta 20, but I wonder if the Beta 16 would be an equally good choice (a slightly easier fit, and slightly less costly potentially) but I"m not sure if that's quite enough power.

Any advice  is welcomed.

I would go with the 25 hp as it is closer to the Atomic four. You need to watch the gearbox ratio as quite a few older Atomic fours were straight drive verse reduction gear on Beta. Would totally change prop.

i have a 5.5 ton trapper, it is fitted with a beta 14, seems adequate for my needs.

i think available space should be considered, as servicing an engine that is glove tight to your space will prove more inconvenient in the long run
