Tach pickup from Alternator

Hi I have the 13.5 diesel motor. I want to hook up the tachometer because the guy who installed the engine never did. First off is the unused wire by the other alternator wires for the Tach. Secondly which of the three unused screws for the tach.

thx james

Hello James,

The 40 amp alternator has a separate wire coming out of the casing with a "bullit" terminal on it. This is the "ac" tap which drives the tach. If the tach is an afternarket one it will need to be calibrated to the engine.

I am not sure what you are what you mean by unused screws.

Thanks for the help.

When I went out on friday I didn't see any wires w/ bullet terminals. Then again I wasn't looking. Wher would this wire be located (back near the rest of the wires?). The 3 screws I am refeering to must bee ones holding the alternater to the casing.

Thx James

Hello James,

What is the build # of this engine. This begins with a K and is on a silver sticker on the valve cover or on the side of the heat exchanger tank. With the Beta Marine panel, everything is pre-wired so you need to give me some more information before I can gelp you properly. What make of tach are you using?

Regards, Stanley
