ultra-low sulfur diesel

Hello,

I am using a BZ-482 diesel and it has been a terrific little engine. I usually get my diesel from auto gas stations, here in CA, but they have just converted to "Ultra-low sulfur diesel". I have heard reports that this type of fuel may cause problems with fuel system seals and engine lubrication. Some Westerbeke dealers have recommending using "Alge-X ASC705" fuel additive. Is it safe to use this low-sulfur fuel in my Beta engine and are any fuel additives recommended?

Thanks, Mike (a very happy Beta owner!)

Hello Mike,

We are pleased that you are happy with your BZ482, I am sure it'll give you a smile everytime you turn the key!!!

There are no problems using your engine with Low Sulfur Fuels, as with ALL Beta Marine US engines, the base engine is a Kubota, a World-Wide manufacturer of engines.  The same engines we supply are used all over the world, particularly in Britain and Europe, where low sulfur diesel has been used for a number of years.

Robert.

Hi Bob,

Thank you for the information. It is good to know that this fuel is compatible as it has been much easier to fill a portable tank at the gas station than get the boat over to a fuel dock.

                                       Best Regards, Mike

P.S. It has been three years now but I still grin whenever the Beta starts up. I use to have a 5hp, Westerbeke 1-cylinder that was like running a jackhammer.
